EFCC arrests FUTA, AAU students for alleged N16m internet scam (Photo)

Five suspected undergraduate scammers have been arrested by The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibadan Zonal Office over about N16million Internet fraud.

Four are from the Federal University of Technology Akure, (FUTA) and another from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba , (AAUA).

They were arrested at an Off- Campus residence located at Anuoluwapo Close, Stateline Hotel Road, off FUTA South Gate, Akure, Ondo.

A statement by the Head of Media and Publicity of EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren said
:
“ The fraudsters who are between 20 and 23 years of age include: Adeleke Paul (21), Adebiyi Tayo Abudu (22) , Akinsanmi Olusola Adeniyi (21), Ogundile Ademola James (23) and Okali Ugochukwu (21).

“The commission got wind of their activities through series of intelligence. Paul and his co-travelers, who go about with the name Tsunnami Gang and Young Pablo Money allegedly swindled unsuspecting foreigners and others to the tune of N16million recently.


“The suspected fraudsters engaged in fraudulent activities of obtaining money by false pretences through scam mails.


“Paul is a penultimate final year’s student of Building Technology while James and Olusola are both 400 level students of Agricultural Resources and Mathematics respectively.


“Okali is a 200 level student of Urban and Regional Planning, while Adebiyi Tayo is a 300 level Student of Mathematics of the Adekunle Ajasin University. Akungba, Ondo State.


“At the point of arrest, EFCC operatives recovered a 2006, black Toyota highlander with registration number(Lagos) LND 112 EG, 2010 light- green Toyota Camry (Muscle) registration number (Lagos) AAA 850 EF, laptops, three Apple iphone6 and three Blackberry phones from them.
“Some implicating documents were also found and downloaded from their laptops.
They are to be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is completed.”

Amaechi & Wike attend peace meeting to ensure violent-free Re-run elections in Rivers State

In an effort to guarantee a violent-free and credible Re-run Senatorial/House of Reps elections in Rivers State, a crucial meeting was held on Tuesday between the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim K. Idris, the DG of Department of State Services, Alh. Musa Daura and the two major players in Rivers State politics, Gov. Nyesom Wike and Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi.


In a statement released by the Nigeria Police Force, the meeting was said to held in an atmosphere of mutual respect and cordiality. They deliberated on the overall need to have peaceful, free and fair election devoid of violence in the State. Wike and Amaechi resolved to be irrevocably committed to lasting peace and vouched to play the game by the rules in the forthcoming re-run elections in the State. They also agreed to prevail on their teaming supporters to adhere to their commitment to peace and security in the State. In addition, they agreed to convene another meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, aimed at further solidifying their commitment to peace.

Three reportedly killed during Hausa-Yoruba clash in Lagos

  
Three persons were reportedly killed in a clash between the Hausa and Yoruba community at Ijora Badia area of Lagos state yesterday July 26th. According to Vanguard, trouble started when a man named Ojo was allegedly attacked and stabbed to death by some Hausa boys in the area. The Yoruba youths in the area staged a protest that became violent.
"For long, these Hausa boys have been attacking people here. They waylay people, dispose them of cash and belongings. Even rulers of both ethnic groups are aware of the issue.”Tajudeen Shamsudeen‎, a resident in the community said The demolition of shanties in the community yesterday increased the tension in the area. ‎
While the Hausa community claim the demolition is one-sided as its only their houses that were demolished, the Yoruba community deny the claim saying it was on the order of the state government.

In the course of the demolition, some Customs officers, who residents of the area claim were invited by the Seriki Hausa, the leader of the Hausa community, stormed the community in three patrol vehicles at about 2.30p.m. They were alleged to have shot into the air to scare off hoodlums in the area. The hoodlums were said to have resisted the Customs officers who allegedly attempted to stop the demolition, an action that led to a shootout, during which three persons sustained gunshot wounds. One of the bullets from the hoodlums hit a Customs officer who was later rushed to the hospital. One of those hit by a stray bullet was identified to be Azeez Tajudeen. Eyewitnesses said he was first taken to the police station for a police report, before being rushed to an undisclosed hospital.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Lagos state Police command, Dolapo Badmus, said contrary to eyewitnesses, only one person died during the attack

"The community and the police were on a joint operation of raiding black spots within the community and arresting suspected criminals yesterday. In the process, some officers of the Nigerian Customs Service officers, who were with officials of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, had an encounter with some of the hoodlums. They fired some shots and three people were hit. As a result, one death was recorded, while two others are receiving treatment in the hospital. Policemen are not involved.”she said
