Mr. Mientei Ayawei, son of a former Bayelsa State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Chief Nimibofa Ayawei, and his girlfriend, identified only as Happiness, have been burnt to death in an apartment fire.
The incident occurred on Saturday at the NIIT area of Tombia in Yenagoa Local Government Area of the state.
The cause of the inferno could not be ascertained but a source close to the family of Ayawei, the current Chairman of the Bayelsa State Board of Internal Revenue, said the fire was caused by a high electricity voltage.
The source, who did not want to be mentioned because he was not authorised to comment on the incident, said the high voltage, which allegedly sparked fire through electric extension, started by 4 am on that day.
He said the fire, which razed nearly all the rooms and property in the one-storey building, adjacent a filling station owned by the former commissioner, started from the apartment where Mientei and his girlfriend were.
The source, who claimed to be a sibling of the victim (Mientei), said when the fire allegedly started, the duo of Mientei and Happiness were sleeping.
He said the deceased got knowledge of the fire when the whole room they were in had already been enveloped by smoke and furnace.
He said on that day, there were two other persons who were in another room in the house, but they managed to escape death by a whisker.
He said Mientei, 25, had just finished his degree programme in Human Resources Management, from a university in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
It was learnt that firefighters arrived the scene after some hours.
The presence of the  firefighters, were, however,  said to have saved other buildings in the neighbourhood,  including a filling station,  Dannielo Pulo,  from being consumed.
He said the firefighters did their best to extinguish the fire, noting that their efforts were commendable.
When contacted,  spokesman for the State Police Command, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the inferno, saying the police responded to the distress call quickly.
He, however, said he had not been fully briefed on the casualty figure.
He promised to make further contact with the Divisional Police Officer of the division to ascertain if the fire caused any deaths.

“Before I met my husband, I used to work on Sundays, but he always says that I need to rest.
Our chef leaves on Saturday mornings to see his family, so whenever I want to cook, my husband tells me not to do so and we eat out. We do that very often. Now, I enjoy my life and I rest.”
Read FULL INTERVIEW BELOW:

Newly-married actress, Funke Akindele-Bello, talks about her acting career and her marriage experience
As an actress, script writer and film producer, Funke Akindele-Bello can’t be considered a small fry in Nollywood. With a career that has spanned almost two decades, the thespian who cut her acting tooth with the role of Bisi, a curious but intelligent secondary school student in the United Nations Population Fund sponsored sitcom, I Need To Know, in the late nineties, has endeared herself to a legion of fans beyond the frontiers of Nigeria. She is also one of the few actresses who have thrived in the English and Yoruba genres of Nollywood.
Popularly known by her alter ego, Jenifa , a sobriquet she earned after the successful release of her hit film, Jenifa, and its sequel, The Return of Jenifa, Akindele-Bello, is back to filming after taking a recess that lasted several months and during which she wedded musician, JJC Skillz, in London. She provides an insight into what she is up to presently. “I have been filming a new television series called In Da Streetz. It is about the entertainment industry and how people try to survive. It also dwells on the hustle and bustle in the ghetto. It would be full of glitz, glamour and it’s a production that has deep content,’’ she says.
The new project is not in any way similar to Jenifa’s Dairy, and will feature big names in the entertainment industry, she reveals: “My new project is music-oriented, so I am working with people like K-Switch, Mo-Easy, Lydia Forson, Linda Ejiofor, Tina Mba, Kunle Coker, and Freeze of Cool FM. It is just a group of people coming together to do something different on television through Scene One Productions, where I am the CEO. My mission is for people to enjoy wholesome entertainment.”
After her first marriage to Kehinde Oloyede, crashed in 2013, the actress, recently got married a second time albeit secretly in London to entertainment guru, Abdul-Rasheed Bello, aka JJC Skillz, last August. She says the latter who is a producer, music video director and artiste, fashioned the concept for her new project. “My husband is a pioneer in the music industry, so he has been there. He gave me the storyline and the synopsis which I developed and edited,” she states. The award-winning actress recalls that acting is something she’s always wanted to do from a young age. She started dancing and acting in primary school and also belonged to a cultural troupe. She joined a drama group while in secondary school and pursued her passion relentlessly even as an undergraduate.
A lawyer by training, she recollects how her father ensured she studied Law at the University of Lagos. “I recall that my father wanted me to study Law because he wanted me to become a lawyer. Even though he had his reservations about acting, I was undeterred,” she says.
Today, being celebrated and making some money out of acting is a plus for her as she says there is nothing more fulfilling than doing what she loves and getting paid for it. She stated, “I am grateful to God for the opportunities that have come my way as an actress. When I started out, it wasn’t easy and there were lots of challenges. I have been acting and producing films before I came out with Jenifa. The movie was a commercial success and following it up with Jenifa’s Dairy, was a like an extension of the goodwill Jenifa, enjoyed.”

Although critics have argued that she didn’t need to create a series using the Jenifa cognomen, Akindele-Bello quipped that one of the lessons she has learnt in life is that people will say a lot of things and attempt to make you lose focus especially when they realise that you are making progress. “If you have an idea, sleep, eat and drink it until you make a reality of it. Jenifa is a brand that I love so much. I didn’t even want to come up with the series but I realised that a lot of people like the brand. When I go out, I speak to a lot of young people. They like Funke quite alright but when I give them that variant of English, Jenifa is known for, the reaction is priceless,” she adds.
For her, producing Jenifa’s Dairy, has become a tiring effort: “I am tired of producing the series because it is time-consuming but my husband says that I cannot stop now because my fans love it, people are celebrating me, I have won awards and every day, they talk about me because they are not tired. People say it’s the best TV series, so I cannot stop.”
A recipient of several awards including the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role and the Nigeria Entertainment Award for Best Actress in 2009, as well as the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards for Best Actress in a Comedy in 2014 and 2016, she sees American film star, Tyler Perry, as someone that she looks up to. According to her, his Madea brand is huge and she hopes to build a bigger empire for herself .
What are the downsides of acting? With a huge sigh, she affirms that there have been times when she felt like throwing in the towel but some inspirational songs keep her going. “The gospel group, Mary Mary, inspires. Whenever I listen to their songs, I am inspired. One of their songs goes thus: ‘I just can’t give up now. I’ve come too far from where I started from, nobody told me that road is going to be easy.’ The song teaches me that good things don’t come easy, you just have to push. There are many times when they write about me in the newspapers and magazines. I just say to myself that it’s not their fault, it’s because I am acting. At such times, I want to quit acting but then, I look into the mirror and say to myself, you have it in you, don’t give up and bury your talents. This is why I use my talent as a tool to pass messages across to people,’’ she says.
Even though Akindele-Bello, refused to comment on her new marriage, she speaks about some of the changes that have occurred in her life since getting married. “Before I met my husband, I used to work on Sundays, but he always says that I need to rest. Our chef leaves on Saturday mornings to see his family, so whenever I want to cook, my husband tells me not to do so and we eat out. We do that very often. Now, I enjoy my life and I rest.’’
Akindele-Bello, who clocked 39 in August, said she wants to be remembered for her brand and the lives she has impacted. In addition, she desires to take a lot of young people off the streets. She says, “I have a not-for-profit organisation and I am going to be working with Lekki Coliseum, very soon to empower young people. I’ve done that a couple of times and we organise workshops and trainings. We give people start-up kits to begin their businesses. I am passionate about the empowerment of young people.
“I also want to set up another NGO to help people living with cancer. I have a friend who was diagnosed with stage-four cancer and she has given me the permission to talk about her journey. Many times when I was broke, I still had give her money to attend chemotherapy sessions. Because of the state of her health, she was unable to move around to seek funding. Thankfully, I am healthy and I can still work, so I am grateful to God for keeping her alive.’’
On her likes and dislikes, the thespian is quick to say that she likes frank and honest people. She abhors liars, those who steal and she cannot stand indiscipline as well.
Hear her: “People call me Margaret Thatcher, because I do not like indiscipline. You must not be rude, we are Nigerians and we have a culture and we are well-trained. I am Yoruba girl, so you have to be respectful. I always tell people that never believe that because you are made, you can bring people down. Even if you are up there, remain level-headed so you don’t fall,’’ she concluded.

For a man, one of the worst feelings, is the feeling you get just as you walk in on your woman cheating on you.
If you have been cheated on, you wouldn’t wish that feeling on anyone.
A man named Paul found himself in a very frustrating situation over the week, when he caught his wife Janet cheating on him.
Reportedly, Janet had been carrying on with a subordinate named Fred. And it had gotten so bad that she was neglecting her family – the couple’s family consist of two children, one of whom is barely a year old.

‘I can feel my leg but i can’t find it’ – Young female graduate with amputated leg tells her touching story

graces
The story is about a 26 year old girl whose name is Grace Oge Onuoha. She is a graduate of Agricultural Economics, an Extension from the University of Agriculture, Markudi.
Like every Nigerian graduate who goes for the compulsory youth service scheme after graduation, Grace did the same. She did hers at Zamfara State in 2014. And also, just like many youth Corps members who shouted: “God why me”, when they realised that they had been posted to the North Grace also had her fears.
However, life as they said is a mystery. A single mosquito bite eluded Grace during her stay in the North. She bubbled and radiated in beauty and grace. Her chubby cheeks were always surrounded with laughter. Her smile were infectious and it always reveal a perfect set of dentition. She was doing fine. She also had her own business as well as her primary assignment.

That is a multiple income. A typical Igbo girl. And then, the NYSC was over and Grace had to go home like everybody. And then it happened. On that fateful day, which was on the third of July 2015, a day that will never be erased from her memory, she was at Ibadan, where she was working, her boss wanted her to go and make some bank transactions.
She was usually the one who did that in the office. She went on that journey with two legs but she never came back the same. On her way, a vehicle lost control and veered to her side of the road and hit her from behind. After two surgeries and medical analysis, it dawned on her and her family that she will not be able to use her right knee again.
Poor Grace and her family were given a decision to either amputate the leg or allow the problem to spread to other parts of the body and that may be catastrophic for Grace. Faced with that situation, they chose life and allowed the leg to be amputated. When asked how it feels to have an amputated leg she had this to say: “I must confess it hasn’t been easy. It is really a painful ordeal. I was in pains; I was feeling my legs after the amputation.

Even till date I still feel my legs, but when I look down, I can’t find it. I will be like, but I felt you inside of me, but I can’t find you. I can’t see you when I look down. It has really not been easy relying on crutches for movement since it has its attendant limitations”. Grace has refused to give in to depression despite her predicament. She said: “I thank God for the spirit He has given me. He made me strong. He made me not to look at my limitations.
Sometimes when I am down, I will be like, what if you have died? What if you did not wake up from that unconsciousness? I thank God for the accident; I have to be grateful for life because that would have been the end of me. So, when I look at all those things, I realise that I have every reason to be grateful to God.
Some people eat and they never stood up from where they ate. Some people even slump and die where they are, but here I am still alive having passed through the trauma and the shock”.
Grace further stated: “Even when I was in the hospital, I saw so many people like me who had very serious cases, who the vehicle crushed their legs right from the feet through the waist region and they never made it because they were depressed. They passed out.
They died. I have always had that strong spirit, ever since the first day it happened. I have always been filled with smiles, happiness, because that is the only way I can overcome whatever that has happened to me.

So, I am grateful to God because I know that, He who has kept me alive has something special for me. I am not better or more than those who have died, but I think, He has given me life for a reason. He spared me for a reason and I know that His plans for me would come to actualization by the grace of God. Amen.”

Grace needs help. She has undergone an orthopaedic evaluation where the use of prosthesis was recommended to enable her walk on her own. The cost of that prosthetic leg is N2.5 million. Her family has been able to raise some amount but the figure is nothing compared to what is required.
Thus, she needs help if she is ever going to walk again without the crutches as it is her hope and prayer that she walk again and take a selfie like her mates do without the aid of crutches. As the famous German writer and statesman Johann Wolfgang Goethe puts it: “Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Wishing is not enough, we must do”.

Buhari Insists: “Aisha Belongs In My Kitchen, Her Job is to Look After Me”

buhari-3373847b
President Muhammadu insists the place of his wife, Aisha, is in the kitchen.
On Friday, Buhari said his wife belonged in the kitchen, and “the other room,” apparently a euphemism for the bedroom.
He had said this at a press conference after a closed-door meeting, with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, in response to an interview Aisha granted the BBC, where she said that his government had been hijacked.
In the interview, Aisha had also said that she might not support her husband under the present circumstances if he seeks re-election in 2019.
“I don’t know which party my wife belongs to, but my wife belongs to my kitchen and my living room and the other room.” Buhari had said.
“It is not easy to do away with opposition or people who did not follow you along your campaign trail. I hope my wife will remember that I was on the field for 12 years; I tried three times, the fourth time I managed to succeed. And I ended up the first three times in the Nigerian Supreme Court, so I claim superior knowledge over her and the rest of the opposition and I succeeded.
“It is not easy to satisfy the whole Nigerian opposition party or to participate in the government.”
In response to a backlash from the statement, Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, said the president was only joking.
But in an interview with DW’s Phil Gayle, Buhari reiterated his position, saying the function of his wife was to take care of his home:
DW: Recently your wife criticised your choices for top jobs, and you responded by saying “I don’t know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room.” What did you mean by that, sir?
Buhari: I am sure you have a house. … You know where your kitchen is, you know where your living room is, and I believe your wife looks after all of that, even if she is working.
DW: That is your wife’s function?
Buhari: Yes, to look after me.
DW: And she should stay out of politics?
Buhari: I think so.

“Our son did not slump and die, he was murdered” – Family of Benue State University Medical Student

benue-0
The family of a 500 level medical student of Benue State University (BSU) Makurdi, Apostle Victor Egbe, who died in the early hours of October 12th, said he was murdered as there were deep cuts on his body
Egbe, the founder of Campus Witness Church reportedly went to pray for a sick student at the university clinic when he slumped and died shortly after the prayer.
The body of the deceased had since been deposited at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital morgue. However, a statement issued by Pastor Emmanuel A. Egbe on behalf of the family disagreed with the report alleging foul play:
benue-01
“The family of late Mr. Godwin Egbe is greatly disturbed with the conflicting details of the story about the sudden and mysterious death of their son victor Egbe a five hundred (500)level student of BSU,” the statement reads.
“One version says that, He slumped inside the school clinic. While another version said he came outside, prayed for a while, lean against the wall then slumped. And then yet another version said he slumped at the entrance of the clinic.
“However, the family is still bewildered at the spectrum of inconsistencies in the entire saga. A close observation of the corpse, revealed a SHARP DEEP CUT in-between the chin and the neck, that made him bleed for over ten hours, which the family suspected, he (Victor) must had been stabbed and a major vein cut within his neck region. Also, that his clothes was soaked in blood from his shoulder downward indicates, he started bleeding while standing
benue-02
“In the attempt to uncover the mystery surrounding the death, the family is being frustrated with a perceived conspiracy, that the family members are alarmed and flummoxed at the attitude of most of the eye witnesses that refused to meet with them. Another baffling scenario, is the sudden disappearance of one “Pastor” Solomon, who is believed, was with Victor when the incident occurred. Despite the numerous calls put through to him (Solomon) to show up, proved abortive and up till now, he still at large. Also of equal disturbance, is the call put through, to Victor’s assistant, a female pastor by the same person he (Victor) prayed for, shortly after his death, to inquire if Victor had arrived home safely, but later astonishingly states, Victor slumped in front of him.”
Meanwhile, the university management said they were still investigating the matter and will make their findings known in due course.

“I am Not Allowed To Get Married As An Hausa Actress” – Rahama Sadau

ramatu
About two months ago at the City People Entertainment awards, embattled Hausa actress, Rahama Sadau had a chat with popular journalist Morakinyo Olugbiji where she talked about Challenges faced by actresses in the Northern part of the country.
According to her, one of the challenges is that she is not allowed to get married as long as she is still practicing the profession. She either quits or remain single.
She also told the journalist her dream to become an international actress. With her recent ban from acting in Kannywood and the invitation to Hollywood by Jeta Amata and US singer, Akon, it looks like Rahama’s dream is fast coming to a reality.
Read the interview below…

You just won an award at the 2016 City People Entertainment Awards, what does this award mean to you?

A lot! It means a whole lot. I was actually surprise about the award.

What would you say that you’ve done within Kannywood to have deserved this?
Well, I will first of all say that finally, my hard work paid off because I am a very hard-working person and a dedicated person. Although I was surprised for winning this award because I wasn’t expecting it,however it wasn’t a big surprise because I have been working hard and hard work always definitely get rewarded at the end of the day.

With this kind of prestigious award, do you think Kannywood is finally getting it’s due recognition in the Nigerian film industry?
Yes I think so. It is getting recognised which is why we could be included in this kind of award. In fact I would say Kannywood is now everywhere.

What’s your major challenge as a Kannywood actress?
My main challenge is trying to break from Kannywood into Nollywood. That is the challenge. I want to be able to juggle between the two industries because I believe that I am a Nigerian actress, not a Kannywood actress. Although, I must say that Kannywood is a foundation for me to start. Kannywood is my root, but then I am a Nigerian actress. A true actress is not boxed into a certain area, a true actress is versatile. So, crossing fully into Nollywood and being accepted as a Nigerian actress, instead of being referred to as a Kannywood actress has been a challenge. I just want to beable to act the two together. But I’m gradually overcoming that.

How did you get into acting?

I had always been a big fan of actors. When I was in secondary school, I joined this drama group entertaining our mates in Secondary school. So being an actress wasn’t something that hadn’t been a part of me. I had been dreaming to be an actress, and I am now.
Who is your mentor in the industry?
Ali Nuhu is my mentor. He is my brother and everything. He is the one that introduced me to Kannywood and everywhere. I am where I am today beecause of Ali Nuhu. If not for Ali Nuhu, I wouldn’t be here.

What are you aiming towards career-wise?
I want to be an international actress, apart from being a Nigerian actress. I just don’t want to be this actress that whenever it is mentioned anywhere in the world that she is an actress, what will come to mind of people is she belongs to a particular part. I just want to be a world actress, an international actress. So I have this dream of becoming an international actress.

You want to crossover, but a lot of your colleagues seem to complain about the religious and traditional restraint of acting in Kannywood, with that in mind, do you think crossing over will be possible at all?
Honestly, it feels a bit bad. It makes me feel a little bit bad, but you know, you can’t just crossover because of religion and tradition; what you can just do is to be careful in order not to offend the society. You just have to be very careful, especially in my own case that I’m determined to fully cross over. I will be having this challenges of different culture and tradition from Nollywood and Kannywood. So like I said, you just have to be careful.
Now, that you want to fully cross over to Nollywood, don’t you think the ‘offensive’ style of the industry will rub off on you; like the dress sense and all which might infuriate many?
I won’t express too much to attract the fury of the Northerners. I am an ambassador of my northern society and wherever you find yourself, you must represent yourself in worthy manner. Just as we are here now, everyone that sees us at this event will know that we are from the north.

But that’s because you are still in Kannywood, is that not so?
(Laughs) Even if it is still in Nollywood, there are certain things that you just have to be careful about because you are representing your people and you have to protect their interests and their culture.
I know you are still growing, but what would you consider as the climax of your career so far?
There have been a lot. Like you said, I am still growing. I’m just grateful for every moment. Every moment has been a high point. I just had one with this award. So I would say, Alhamdulillahi, Masha Allah.

You saw a lot of jaw-dropping dressing among Nollywood actresses here, for instance when Kiki Omeli was going to claim her award, she causes a stir because of her bum-short which had her derriere wiggling, what was going through your mind?
Yeah, I saw a lot of Nollywood actresses and their dressing and I was like huh? I mean, we don’t dress like this in the north. You know, I can’t walk like that, I just can’t!

What’s your advice to them, do you condemn that or would you say that it’s a free world?
No, no, no! I’m not complaining. It’s their life! Everyone has their lives to live. I’m not complaining at all. They should just do what they want; what they like. So it’s a free world, yes.

Anyone you would like to work with in Nollywood?
Yes, so many people. I have worked with so many already. I have worked Majid Michel, that’s Ghallywood. I have worked with Mercy Johnson, Eniola Badmus, OC Ukeje, Deyemi Okanlawon and a few others I can’t remember now. I’m aiming to work with many more.

What determines your fashion style; I mean you are all covered up, yet you look attractive and fashionable?
Thank you. I just wear what suits me best. What makes me comfortable. That’s just what determines my dress sense.

I’m aware that once you are married, you will not be able to act again, how true is that?
Yes, yes it’s true! But in my own case, I’d say no because there are politicians that are working mothers. Same, there are journalists and broadcasters that are working mothers. Are they not all media people, so what happens to we actresses? Why? That’s my own challenge I’m posing. why? So in my own case, I say no!

When you go against the norm, don’t you think the society that you are will frown at you, or despise you?
They might. I know they might.
So when that time comes what are you going to do?
Hmm, I don’t know. Honestly I really don’t know.

Are you going to vacate Kannywood?
No, no, no! I won’t do that. I can’t quit acting for marriage.
What if your husband does not want to accept that you continue acting while married to him?
Whoever sees me now and say he wants to marry me, has definitely seen what I do. So, we need to decide whether he can bear me doing this as his wife or not. That’s it. Marriage cannot stop me.

Have you ever been criticised based on being an actress?
Yes. I have been criticised especially for the way I dressed as an actress.

Oh, you are dressed this way and someone still thinks it’s not appropriate?
Yes, yes because they believe we are meant to cover everything totally. Also I have been criticised for the things I do on TV and for the collaborations with Nollywood stars of course. That’s my main challenge, because I am the first Kannywood actress to cross over to Nollywood.

Finally, tell me briefly about your family background?
My families are all northerners. My dad is from Kaduna state while my mum is from Gombe state. The only difference between my parents and other parents is that my parents don’t care what career you choose as long as you are protective of your background and tradition. They allow you follow your dream. My parents don’t believe in a world of strictness because they believe strictness leads a child to become a bad person.

Photos: US Olympic sprinter Tyson Gay's 15-year-old daughter killed in shootout at a restaurant

American Olympic sprinter Tyson Gay’s teenage daughter was killed by stray bullet in an apparent shootout at a restaurant.

Trinity Gay, 15, a rising track star died after being shot in the neck at a restaurant in Kentucky in the early hours of Sunday morning, October 16th. Tyson Gay, who grew up in Lexington told local news site LEX 18:
"She didn’t make it. I’m so confused. She was just here last week for fall break. It’s so crazy. I have no idea what happened."
The runner told reporters he was very close with his daughter, who was following in her dad's footsteps as a rising track star. Police in Lexington, where the fatal shooting happened, said it happened at around 4am 98am.
According to police, a group of men in two cars outside of the Cook Out restaurant began shooting at each other before speeding off.

It is thought Trinity was a bystander who was not in the vehicles, described as a Dodge Charger and a dark coloured sports car with tinted windows, when she was shot. Police say they believe they have found one of the cars that could be involved in this shooting and they are questioning possible suspects.

In a statement police said they are now investigating the early morning homicide.
Trinity ran as an athlete for Lafayette High School, making a name for herself locally with success as a 100m and 200m sprinter.
"She was so innocent, she was so innocent," her mother, Shoshana Boyd, told the Daily News in a tearful interview. "I just want people to stop shooting and realise who they 're hurting. It's just random. They don't understand who they are hurting"
She said her daughter wanted to become a surgeon and also hoped to match the Olympic glory of her father.
"I should never have to bury my own child," Boyd said. "She wanted to be the fastest woman in the world, and they took that away from her"
