People assuming Gbenro is with me for a green card is very hurtful- Osas Ighodaro-Ajibade says

In a recent interview with Genevieve magazine, actress and new mum, Osas Ighodaro-Ajibade said it was very hurtful to her when she heard people making comments that Gbenro Ajibade married her because he wants to get a green card. Osas is a US citizen. Speaking, Osas said
“Being in the limelight, I hear different things and I wouldn’t be human if some of them didn’t get to me; especially the comments people made about how he is only with me because he wants a green card. That was very hurtful because people don’t understand the love we have for each other. Everybody likes a good life. Who no like better tin?
If he is able to get a green card for being with me, then that is a blessing but for people to assume that that is the only reason he is with me is very hurtful. Gbenro has had different opportunities in his life and he could have made that ‘green card’ happen a long time ago. He always tells me that he had never envisioned himself being in love and in a relationship until he met me. He thought he might just end up having a baby mama. I didn’t ask him to marry me. He asked me to take this journey with him. People can talk all they want” she said
Osas said many people thought she could have done better with her choice of a life partner but she doesn't care. According to her, Gbenro might not be the richest man but they have love and will grow together.
"People say I could have done better but I don’t even think about it. I know what I have gone through and the kind of men who have approached me. The first and most important thing to me is love. Of course I know some billionaires could have courted me but I am not about the money. When I first returned from the US that’s what I was being approached with but it’s never been my priority. Love is more important to me. Gbenro might not be the richest man in the world but there is love and we will grow together and that’s what makes me proud of our marriage. Would I rather be rich and miserable? No! I have a man who is smart and talented, so handsome and God fearing. There is no other direction he would go but upwards because he is a man who is determined for himself and his family. I am not worried that he is not a billionaire; by God’s grace he will get there. I’d rather be happy in the man he is and the man I know he is aspiring to be. People will always have opinions. I am judged even for the air I breathe"she said.

All skin and bones: AFP Correspondent photographs Nigeria starving children in Muna, Maiduguri

Photos of Nigerian starving children in Muna, a suburb on the outskirts of Maiduguri where the UN children’s agency UNICEF runs a nutritional clinic, taken by Stefan Heunis, a Freelance photographer based in Lagos. Read below:
"It may be the rainy season, but the savannah scrubland stretching out below me is dusty, dry and brown, linked by a spider’s web of dirt tracks and footpaths.
I’m in a plane descending toward the Maiduguri International Airport and squint to focus on the hamlets dotted across the landscape, It’s my third visit here and once again I can’t see many natural water bodies, which gives me a familiar uncomfortable feeling. How do people survive in this harsh climate?” I wonder. I remind myself to stay hydrated.
"Touch down in Maiduguri and the light is blindingly bright. The air hits you in the face like a hairdryer on its hottest setting. I’ve come here to report on the latest calamity to befall the capital of Borno state. Sitting on the north banks of the seasonal Ngadda river and historically a major commercial hub just south of the Sahara, it was fought over for centuries by traders, traditional and religious leaders, then about a century ago the colonialists.

Over the past several years, it had become more notorious as the birthplace of Boko Haram, the Islamist group whose insurgency has devastated northeast Nigeria since 2009 and spilled across the border into Cameroon, Chad and Niger.

AFP has covered the insurgency since it began: the horrific and relentless attacks on mosques, churches, markets and bus stations, suicide bombings and raids on remote villages. In the last 18 months the Nigerian military, helped by its neighbors, has reclaimed territory from the insurgents, apparently weakening the radical group to the point of "technical" defeat.

But this doesn't mean the people living here are doing any better.
In recent weeks another shocking dimension of the conflict has emerged: severe food shortages have meant that hundreds of people -- in particular children -- are suffering from severe acute malnutrition. That’s a fancy way of saying they’re starving. Sometimes to death

The camps for internally displaced people (IDPs) where the worst malnutrition cases have been reported are not accessible without military assistance, so we decide to drive to an informal settlement in Muna, a suburb on the outskirts of Maiduguri where the UN children’s agency UNICEF runs a nutritional clinic

Before going to a place like Muna, I always try to figure out the best way to portray the situation in the most honest way I can, while still maintaining the humanity in the subjects.

It is never easy to witness suffering and be practically powerless to affect change, to do anything about the people’s immediate circumstances
t’s challenging because you need to retain respect for your subjects, which in this case entails focusing a lens on them and capturing that moment in time. I believe part of that respect comes with sensitivity towards the different realities that you are presented with.

My first impression of the Muna settlement is of a dry dust bowl, a barren patch of land devoid of grass and vegetation. The tents are scattered in clusters over the naked earth and the sun beats down on the ground....

I’m not aware of crisis in NFF – FIFA president

The visiting President of world football governing body, FIFA, Gianni Infantino, on Monday said he was not aware of any crisis rocking the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation.
The FIFA President said this when State House correspondents asked him to make a statement on the leadership crisis rocking the NFF, shortly after meeting President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
“I don’t think there is any crisis in football management in Nigeria.
“There is an elected president in place and he is functioning.

“In a big country like Nigeria, you are bound to see opposition; that’s what you see,” Infantino said.
He said in his meeting with Buhari, he discussed about football development in Nigeria.
“I have had some intense discussion on football in Nigeria and Africa. We discussed how we can best develop football in Africa because there are talents, potentials and passion to do great things in football in Nigeria and Africa,” he added.
The FIFA President said he had the mandate to ensure accountability and transparency in the organisation as well as develop football.
According to a statement by presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, the FIFA boss had during the meeting with Buhari asked the Nigerian authorities to pay attention to infrastructure and find a lasting solution to the problem of violence and insecurity at match venues.
‘‘I foresee Nigeria as a bedrock for the development of the game in Africa, however infrastructure, stability and security are needed to make this happen,” he was quoted as saying.
Buhari was said to have promised at the meeting that his administration will pay keen interest to accountability and transparency to fast-track football development in the country.
Hewelcomed Infantino’s programme to reform the world game through transparency, anti-corruption and good governance.
The President pledged Nigeria’s support to FIFA president’s reform agenda, noting that they were similar to those his presidency had outlined to resuscitate Nigeria.
‘‘Majority of Nigerians are married to football. In the rural areas, when there is no electricity and there is a game to watch, Nigerians go to the extent of renting small generators, popularly known as ‘I better-pass-my neighbour’ to watch the game.
‘‘We will take the development of football very seriously and I encourage the Nigeria Football Federation to behave itself and organise effective competitions for the good of the game.
‘‘Accountability is serious business and I welcome you (Infantino) into the club of accountable Chief Executive Officers,’’ the President said.
Infantino was accompanied on the visit by FIFA Secretary-General, Fatma Samoura; the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung; President of NFF, Amaju Pinnick; and the President of Nigerian Olympics Committee, Mr. Habu Gumel.

Mikel joins Olympic Eagles

Nigeria and Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi finally joined the Nigeria Olympic football team training camp in Atlanta, Georgia on Monday, the Nigeria Football Federation confirmed.
The Federation through their Twitter handle wrote on Monday, “John Mikel Obi joins Olympic Squad in the US.”
Norway-based defender William Troost-Ekong joined the team in camp on Sunday. Both the player and the federation announced his arrival also via Twitter.
Mikel’s arrival gives hope to the team after some other notables such as Kelechi Iheanacho, Odion Ighalo, Victor Moses and Alex Iwobi failed to accept the invitation to be at the Rio Olympics. Their clubs turned down Nigeria’s request to release the players for the age-grade event.
It will be Mikel’s first time at the Olympics after he turned down the opportunity to be at the Beijing 2008 Games squad, which was also incidentally managed by Samson Siasia.
Also on Monday and in the USA, the Nigeria men’s basketball team D’Tigers left Los Angeles for Houston where they will go through the final phase of their camping before embarking on the trip to Brazil. The players have been in the US camp since last month. They played two games against Argentina winning the first and losing the second. They defeated China before moving to the new base where they will play the USA in their final match before Rio.
