Cook kills friend for reporting him to police

The Lagos State police command has arrested a man, Daniel Okorie, for allegedly stabbing his friend, Onyeka Jackson, to death in the Iyana Isashi area of the state.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Okorie, who worked as a cook, was wanted by the police for beating up a female customer, allegedly killed Jackson for reporting him to the police station.
Our correspondent learnt that Okorie stabbed Jackson on the neck when he visited the suspect’s apartment at Clinic Bus stop, Iyana Isashi.
It was gathered that the incident occurred around 6.30am on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 and was reported at the Isashi Police Division.
Our correspondent learnt that Okorie, who hails from Ebonyi State, and Jackson worked as cooks in the Ijanikin area.

It was gathered that a week before the incident, a female customer was allegedly beaten up by Okorie, and the woman reported the incident at a police station.

Okorie was said to have fled the store while the policemen, who launched a manhunt for him, arrested Jackson and asked him to produce his friend.

PUNCH Metro learnt that when Jackson left the police station, he headed for Okorie’s rented apartment on Tuesday, and told him to report himself to the police.

Okorie was said to have become infuriated and an altercation ensued, during which the suspect allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed his colleague. Jackson was said to have been rushed to a private hospital in the area, where he was confirmed dead.

When our correspondent visited Okorie’s apartment, a neighbour, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the suspect thought his colleague reported the assault to the police.
He said, “They both worked in a store in Ijanikin. They have another store in Iyana Era area. Sometime last week, Daniel (Okorie) beat up a woman, who was one of their customers. The woman went to the police station to report.

“When the policemen came, Daniel had run away. So, the policemen arrested Jackson when they could not find Okorie. When Jackson was released, the first place he went to was Daniel’s place, warning him to turn himself in to the police.
“Daniel became angry, thinking that it was his friend who reported him to the police. An argument ensued and he stabbed him with a knife. He lost a lot of blood. He stabbed him in three places.”
Okorie, at the State Department of Criminal Investigations, Yaba, however, denied killing his friend for going to the police station.

He said, “Some minutes after I got home, Onyeka (Jackson) came to my house and started hitting my door. We had a disagreement in our place of work. I got a knife to threaten him to leave my house. I did not know the knife would hit him. I did not mean to kill him.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the arrest. She added that the corpse had been deposited in a morgue in Badagry.

She said, “There was a fight between the friends and Jackson was stabbed to death. The suspect has been arrested and the exhibit has also been recovered. The corpse was deposited at the morgue of the Badagry General Hospital for an autopsy. Meanwhile, investigation is ongoing.”

FG sacks resident doctors over strike

The Nigerian government has ordered the replacement of an estimated 14,000 resident doctors in tertiary hospitals who have been on strike.

The action came after many failed negotiations between the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) and the federal government over work condition, training and other welfare matters.
According to a statement signed by the Director of Press, Federal Ministry of Health, Mrs Boade Akinola, the directive, was contained in a circular signed by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Amina Shamaki and sent to the CMDs and MDs of the Federal Tertiary Health Institutions.

The Circular reads:
“It has come to the notice of the Management of the Ministry that some Resident Doctors in your establishment have voluntarily withdrawn from the Residency Training Program by refusing to report for training without authorization. Public Service Rule, PSR 030402 (e) is relevant. This is in spite of the ongoing negotiations on their demands put forward by the representatives of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) under the auspices of the Nigerian Medical Association.
“In view of this development, you are hereby directed to replace all the Doctors that have withdrawn their services, with others from the pool of applicants for the training programs in the various disciplines in order not to create ominous gap in training with attendant disruption of health care delivery in your facility.

“Meanwhile, the Ministry is working with the panel on the review of the Residency Training Program in Nigeria, led by Professor Wole Atoyebi, the Registrar of the National Postgraduate Medical College, to fast-track the development of a comprehensive blueprint for postgraduate training of doctors in the country.

“Please, ensure immediate compliance.

Father says he won't change his son's nappies because touching his p!nis is gay

Reddit user throwaway_192i932, 21, who is expecting a baby boy with her 28-year-old husband took to the site to reveal the quandary she's in. Her husband is thrilled they're having a baby but says he'll never change his son's nappy because he thinks touching a baby boy's genital area is 'gay'.

She wrote on the social media site that her husband had told her that nappy changing was 'her
responsibility' and that it would be 'gay' for him to do it. The mother wrote:

'I didn't have the best mom and I want the best for my son. I'm an only child so I don't have much experience on child care so I want to be over-prepared. I heard that raising a baby is one of the most stressful times in your life so I'm learning all I can right now because I'm a slow learner according to my husband.'
However, I told my husband that when the baby comes he needs to use baby wipes on the groin and butt as a precaution since it can be pretty bad.He stopped me and said that I would be changing all of the diapers, that he doesn't want to touch anything because it's gay and that it's my responsibility.
'We got into an argument because I really want his help in raising our son. I'm planning on breast-feeding him so I won't be getting a lot of sleep and so if he helps me change the baby it would help me a lot.I don't understand why my husband thinks like that. Our baby is our son, we need to take care of him. My husband stormed off so what can I say to change his mind?'
In a plea for help on Reddit she wrote:
'I've been married to my husband for three years. But we've been dating for two years before that. He's honestly the best person I've met.'
