Osun rerun: Live Updates, Results and Situation Report

Osun rerun: INEC speaks on ‘arrest of electoral observers, journalists’
The Independent National Electoral Commission has spoken on the alleged arrest of some electoral observers at polling units in Osun state as voting is currently in progress.
The electoral umpire assured electorates that it will address the issues of pressmen and electoral observers allegedly being arrested and prevented from operating in polling units by security agents.
In a post on its verified Twitter handle, @inecnigeria, the electoral umpire wrote: “INEC is disturbed about reports that accredited media and observers are being arrested or prevented from operating in some polling units. This is being taken up with the security agencies.”
Meanwhile, the rerun election is being held at seven polling units located in Orolu, Osogbo, Ife North and Ife South council areas.

Osun rerun: REC official warns electorate, party agents against snatching of ballot boxes
Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner, Olusegun Agbaje, has warned electorates and party agents against snatching of ballot boxes during the state re-run election.
Agbaje said anyone caught in the act will be in danger even as he assured the electorate of adequate security as voting process commences.
Agbaje gave the assurance when he visited the polling unit at Ward 5, Unit 17, on Adewale Street, Alekuwodo Area in Osogbo.
He said INEC and the ad hoc staff were ready to conduct the election and that “the deployment of heavy security is an assurance that nobody or individuals can disrupt the process.
“INEC staff and ad hoc staff are prepared for the election and we have heavy security presence which will guarantee the safety of everyone.
“Anybody coming to snatch ballot boxes is putting his or life in danger.
“Party agents should conduct themselves in an orderly manner, while the electorate should remain peaceful.”
Agbaje equally charged corps members serving at polling units to take their time and make sure they verify voter cards very well before they allow them to vote.
He said “Election should close by exactly 2 p.m. because of the limited units and voters”, saying he is optimistic the election would run smoothly.

Osun election: PDP raises alarm as security agencies bar journalists, observers
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Thursday raised the alarm over the decision of security agencies of stopping journalists and accredited observers from participating in today’s rerun.
PDP’s spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan made the allegation via his Twitter handle.
Ologbondiyan also claimed that the All Progressives Congress, APC, was plotting to use security to intimidate voters.
He tweeted, “@OfficialPDPNig condemns the stoppage of journalists and observers accredited to monitor the supplementary election in Osun by security agents.
“@OfficialAPCNg’s plot to use security agents to intimidate voters, journalists, observers and rig the election is unacceptable.”

Osun rerun: Davido cries out over military interference in election
As the Osun State governorship rerun election takes off, popular Nigerian singer, Davido, on Thursday disclosed what military officers are doing in Orolu polling unit.
The award-winning singer disclosed that military officers have sealed off the polling unit, and that voters can’t perform their civic rights.
Davido, who is a niece to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate, Ademola Adeleke made the disclosure via his Twitter handle.
He wrote: According to information just received at 8:06am the military has sealed off a polling unit in Orolu and refusing voters from entering the place. International observers should please take note. @USEmbassyAbuja, @inecnigeria, @IsiakaAdeleke1
@OfficialPDPNig.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had on Saturday rescheduled the keenly contested governorship election to today.

Osun election: Adeleke cries out, reveals what is happening state right now
The Governorship candidate under the flagship of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke has described the ongoing rerun election in seven units in the state as a ‘coup.‘
Adeleke, who spoke with Punch on Thursday said that supporters of the PDP were being denied access to ballot papers in the governorship rerun election.
“What is happening in Osun State now is not an election. What we have is a coup. That is what we are witnessing now.
“Our supporters are being harassed and are not allowed to vote at all. Let the whole world know that this is not democracy, ” he said.
DAILY POST had earlier reported that Ademola Adeleke of the PDP led the race in last Saturday’s election with 254,698 votes, 353 votes more than Oyetola.
The margin was, however, less than the 3,498 votes in the polling units where votes were cancelled.
Consequently, the Returning Officer for the election, Professor Joseph Afuape, declared the poll inconclusive.
Today, voters will storm some polling units in Orolu, Ife South, Ife North and Osogbo LGAs of Osun State to determine who will lead the state for another four years.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had ordered for a rerun after it declared the last Saturday’s governorship election inconclusive.
According to the Returning Officer, Joseph Fuwape, Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, polled about 254,698 ahead of Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who garnered 254,345 votes.
Afuwape said since the number of cancelled votes, 3,498, exceeded the difference between the two leading parties (353), no winner could be declared, hence his decision to declare the election inconclusive.
Today, the political destiny of the state is in the hand of the people of Olode, in Ife South Local Government, Orolu, Alekuwodo in Osogbo, Oyere, in Ife South and others.
In a couple of hours, the people of the state will know who will be their governor between a federal government backed-Gboyega Oyetola or David Adeleke, aka, Davido-backed Ademola Adeleke.
