Music store owner Tanveer Iqbal was reported missing at around noon on Monday, the Birmingham Mail reports.
Iqbal had not been seen since closing his shop Hi-Tech Music on Sunday evening.
The shopkeeper’s body was later found just before 2pm yesterday in the boot of his Renault Clio, parked in the city's Edgbaston area.
The death was being treated as suspicious.

West Midlands Police forensics teams cordoned off the area between City Road and the Ridgeway and the vehicle was taken away for examination.
Officers are still combing the area for clues this afternoon, with a post-mortem examination set to take place.
Mr Iqbal’s relatives were being supported by specially trained officers.
Det Insp Paul Joyce, who is leading the investigation, said: “We’re working around the clock to try and piece together events leading up to this man’s death.
“Portland Road is likely to remain closed while my team continues to carry out an important forensic examination at the scene.
“If anyone has any information which they think may assist me with this investigation, I would urge them to get in touch as soon as they can.
“I am particularly keen to speak to any witnesses who may have seen Mr Iqbal between closing his shop in Smethwick on Sunday night and the time he was discovered at lunchtime on Monday.”
Police can be contacted on 101 or information can be passed to the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
