Today marks the birthday of talented Nigerian RnB singer, Darey.
Born Dare Arthur-Alade on February 9, over three decades ago, Darey is an award winning singer, song writer, event anchor and reality show judge.
He began his career as a member of an acapella group known as The Chordwebs while he also worked as an OAP at Cool Fm.
Although he was born to the family of legendary jazz musician, Art Alade, Darey’s claim to fame was his emergence as 2nd runner-up at the 2004 edition of Project Fame which held in South Africa.
He went on to release his debut album, ‘From Me 2 U’ under Obi Asika’s Stom Records in 2006 with his debut singles, ‘Fuji’ and ‘Escalade’ becoming instant hits amongst Nigerians. He also hosted the first edition of the Headies (Hiphop world Awards) in 2006 and has gone on to host several events and concerts including the last Future Awards which he anchored alongside South African personality, Bonang Matheba.
Darey has since dropped four albums including his recently acclaimed record, ‘Naked’ which has continued to garner positive review.
Darey is regarded as the ‘king of Nigerian RnB’, a title which remains largely undisputed.
Happy birthday Darey
