The
decision to act roles widely believed to be `indecent’ in a movie, is
the personal choice of the individual involved, a rising star in
Nollywood, Tamara Eteimo, said in Lagos on Thursday.
Eteimo
made the remark in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
She held that such `indecent’ appearance in a movie could portray an
actress in bad light, irrespective of the fact that it was a simulated
role.
“An
actress going nude in films is by choice. If a producer approaches you
with a script that says you are to appear nude, it is left for you as a
professional to either accept or reject the script.
“We
value our cultural norms in Nigeria. Indecent appearance in movies
might also create issues for such an actress in having a good spouse or
having a spouse at all to start with”, she said.
The
Bayelsa born actress also urged parents not to leave their children
without supervision on the choice of movies they watched.
“The
home front needs to be checked because we are in a country where
parents are no longer available to guide their children on what they
should or should not watch.
“Children are usually left with maids who are barely older than them.
“They
have free access to the internet, television, and are at liberty to
watch whatever they want, there should be proper supervision”, she said.
On
intellectual piracy, she stressed that more cinema houses should be
built to thwart the effort of those engaged in the nefarious act. This
will put a stop to the menace.
“If
we are able to manage and follow up our distribution we will not have
the issue of piracy. It might take time but I know we will surely be
able to curb piracy in Nigeria”, she said.
She
added that in the bid to make quick cash, most film owners sell off
their works to marketers, who in turn sell to others thereby exposing
such work to piracy.
She, however, urged filmmakers to put in their very best to protect their works so as not to fall into wrong hands.
